Boy Scouts Troop 290 was founded on December 12, 1967 and there were 29 scouts at the first meeting. At first, the meetings started at 7:00 and the meeting were located at Simonds Elementary School. In 1969, the troop moved to Bret Harte Middle School, where we are currently located.
Within the first 10 years, 13 scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Currently, the troop meets every Monday during the school year at Bret Harte Elementary School in San Jose, CA from 7:30 to 8:30. There are about 70 registered scouts of which about 50 are very active; We have extraordinary success “hatching” Eagle scouts.
